Whoa! Tony "Pretty Boy" Perkins is not acting like a man of "values."
He sent out a press release today to spin the news that the evangelical right is demoralized and likely not to show up at the polls in great numbers. Of course, he calls the news of his minions' probable poor voter turn out "spin" put out by the liberal media.
In previous press releases he's appealed to his minions values in order to get them to the polls. Well, apparently his polls show this not to be working.
So what does he say in this press release? Get a load of this crap.
Sitting out this election doesn't punish conservatives or liberals so much as it slaps in the face every soldier fighting for this same freedom abroad. They've offered their lives--not to protect our apathy, but to protect what America stands for: that government of the people, by the people, and for the people should not perish from this earth.
That is some really cheap shit. Besides lying about fighting for our freedom to vote (which is bad enough), he's basically telling his minions that they will have the blood of US soldiers on their hands if they don't vote. Meaning, if they don't vote for right-wing Republicans.
Pretty Boy is one shameless hustler. He is really just a cheap-ass, amoral door-to-door Bible huckster remade for the prime-time media age.
Well, I say that if his minions do vote and are able to send Republicans back to control both Houses of Congress, a Congress that keeps providing the funds for soldiers in Iraq to die for the lies of the Bush Administration, then they will have slapped the face of every soldier. More to the point, if they send the Republicans back to control Congress, they will really have the blood of every fallen soldier on their hands.

Conservative Voters: Homeward Bound?
Story after story on the elections seem to repeat the same spin--that conservatives are too turned off to turn out the vote. With headlines like "Conservative Voters Likely to Stay Home," many of the press seem to be hoping for a self-fulfilling prophecy. But the truth is, these articles aren't intended to get the facts straight or to talk about the broader cultural issues of moral decline that have given rise to the recent scandals. They're meant to discourage voter turnout--plain and simple. Members of the liberal media understand that values voters were the single largest factor in 2004, and a repeat performance would spell disaster for plans of a liberal takeover of Congress. There's no question the enthusiasm level is far below what it was in 2004. However, where marriage amendments are on the ballot and in the districts and states where candidates take clear and convincing positions on the key social issues, they will find "value voter" support at the polls. If you are tempted to sit this election out, I encourage you not to: vote your values. Sitting out this election doesn't punish conservatives or liberals so much as it slaps in the face every soldier fighting for this same freedom abroad. They've offered their lives--not to protect our apathy, but to protect what America stands for: that government of the people, by the people, and for the people should not perish from this earth.
